Gospel Centered Worship

Here are a couple of quotes from Bob Kauflin about what should be the center of our corporate worship.  You can read the full article here.

“All biblical worship is rooted in and made possible by the cross of Christ. In my experience, the contemporary church (and any church, for that matter) is always in danger of neglecting the gospel in its songs. I said it this way in my book,Worship Matters:

The gospel is not merely one of many possible themes we can touch on as we come to worship God. It is the central and foundational theme. All our worship originates and is brought into focus at the cross of Jesus Christ.”

“We can practice gospel-centered corporate worship in a way that is more obligatory than faith-filled. What once magnified the glory of Christ becomes lifeless repetition.”

“It’s our responsibility as leaders to make sure, as the Puritans said, that we always “labor to be affected by the cross.” The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest news the world has ever heard and our singing should show it.”

Thanks to all of you who made the Christmas program a reality.  So many of you worked hard and put in many hours to help pull it off.  Your prayers, commitment, and heart are the elements that made up for a powerful time of worship and declaration of the Gospel!  We saw 10 people come to Christ!  That is what it is all about!  I love all of you deeply and am looking forward to what God is going to do in and through the Worship Arts Department this year!

Blessings

Last night’s practice was long but great! So many people have worked and prayed so hard to pull this year’s Christmas Program together.  Almost 70 people from all walks of life bringing their gifts, time, and talents together to celebrate the birth of our King!  There are so amazing surprises in this year’s program!  I was really moved at several points in the practice last night – in times of worship, in the moments of Mary and Joseph’s interaction with their new new born, and in the celebration!  Just two days away!

I can’t wait for Sunday!  We’re praying off the snow!  Make sure you’re here! Bring somebody!

Thursday!  We’ve got the initial put together under our belts and we’re ready!  It has been an amazing journey and I’m looking forward to tonight’s practice.  It is always incredible how all the various parts, people, visual elements, and much more pull together.  This is shaping up to be one of the best programs the Lord has birthed in our hearts.  We’ve got a few special effect elements to finish today and some music to tidy up and then we’re done!

I can’t wait for Sunday!

P.S. Thanks to Pastor Bob and Jimmy Weller for the promo on WGMD this week!

Here we are the Monday before the program.  Each of the areas involved have been working hard on their parts and tomorrow night we will be putting all the parts together!  Today is stage day.  We’ll be removing the “squares” that have adorned the stage for the last number of months and decorating for this coming Sunday.  It’s going to be great!  Pray for us today, there will be lots of up and down on the ladder, hanging cloth, rearranging lights, and moving equipment.

Be sure and plan to be here.  Bring somebody!  It’s only 6 days away!
